System Tuning and Optimizations
Overview
System tuning is an essential component of maximizing throughput or reducing latency over the HSRN. Out-of-the-box settings on a computer may not be as efficient or optimized for the wrong purpose. This guide provides an overview of general settings and parameters that may be tuned to your specific needs.
Generally speaking, a computer may optimize for latency or overall throughput, but not both.
General Network Settings
Please ensure that your computer is operating in full-duplex mode.
If you have Wi-Fi enabled on your machine while connected to the HSRN and you experience slow speeds, please turn off your Wireless adapter to ensure your machine uses the HSRN.
Speed Negotiation
By default, all HSRN ports auto-negotiate
with your machine, allowing your computer to choose the speed. This should by default choose the highest speed your machine and the link support. Sometimes the machine may auto-negotiate
to a speed below what it is capable of. If you believe this is the case, please check your Network Interface Card (NIC) hardware, and force set the speed to the highest it is rated for.
Please remember that HSRN Copper Ethernet is rated for 10Gbps
and HSRN Fiber is rated for 100Gbps
