The HSRN is currently in an expansion and onboarding phase, and policies are subject to change as HSRN processes and usage solidifies.

Please abide by the Policy on Responsible Use of NYU Computers and Data

Do not connect a computer to both the HSRN and NYU-NET at the same time.

Attempts to throttle or harm research systems are strictly prohibited.
Please note that network traffic on the HSRN is regularly monitored for malicious actors and intrusions. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at hsrn-support@nyu.edu.
Communication and maintenance plan
Types of maintenance
- Planned Maintenance without user impact:
- Maintenance that is necessary for the health and performance of the network but does not impact users.
- Maintenance without user impact will be worked on during normal business hours.
- Planned Maintenance with potential user impact:
- Maintenance activities that could temporarily affect network services.
- Planned maintenance will typically be carried out in parallel to HPC maintenance every 1st worked Monday of the month
- Alternatively we will schedule maintenance matching with NYU-Net maintenance which is daily past 5pm.
- Emergency Maintenance/Break-Fix:
- Urgent repairs required to address critical failures or network issues.
- Urgent repairs will happen as soon as possible.
Notification channels
- Service Status Page: Posted on Service Status Page
- Email Notifications: Sent to hsrn-users@nyu.edu for wired network users, hsrn-wifi-users@nyu.edu for users affected by HSRN WiFi.
Notification timing
- Planned Maintenance without user impact:
- No updates on the page
- No emails and notifications
- Planned Maintenance with potential user impact:
- Email notification at least seven days prior and a reminder the day before the maintenance.
- Notification on the status page.
- Emergency Maintenance/Break-Fix:
- Notify users as soon as possible via email and/or service status page.
Policy on User Notifications
- Not every activity carried out for the operation of the network will be communicated to end users. Only activities with the potential to impact users will be announced.
