Eligibility and Locations

Who can use the HSRN?

The NYU High Speed Research Network and related resources are available to full-time NYU faculty and to all other NYU staff and students with sponsorship from a full-time NYU faculty. Note that HSRN is available in certain locations only (see below).

There is no renewal needed to continue using the HSRN after devices have been onboarded.

Current HSRN Locations

The HSRN aims to connect buildings of the university where research activity is taking place that may benefit from low latency / high bandwidth connections. Below is the current connectivity of the HSRN in terms of departments:

  • Research Computing Data Center (High Performance Computing)
  • 60 5th Ave (Center for Data Science)
  • 12 Waverly Pl (Center for Genomics & Systems Biology, Department of Biology)
  • 251 Mercer (Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences)
  • 370 Jay St (Department of Computer Science, Center for Cybersecurity, Tisch School of the Arts)
  • 1 Metrotech Center, 22nd Floor (KAIST)
  • 2 Metrotech Center (MAGNET)
  • Meyer Hall (Center for Brain Imaging, Center for Neural Science, Department of Psychology)

Planned and Future Connectivity

The following are the HSRN's current expansion plans and timelines.

  • Silver Center (Theoretical and Computational Chemistry, Department of Chemistry) - 2025
  • 726 Broadway (Department of Physics) - TBD

What is the cost of HSRN?

There is no direct cost to researchers or faculty for use of the HSRN. Note that initial costs to upgrade equipment to use for HSRN or to procure hardware for fiber connectivity is the responsibility of the researcher.

Assistance with Procurement of Equipment

The HSRN team can assist with writing HSRN needs into your grants and funding proposals. We can also assist directly with acquiring funding for projects involving HSRN at NYU or externally. One of the more straight forward approaches would be to submit a DURF Grant Proposal either alone or as a collaboration between our teams, which if fully funded, funds the cost of all fiber equipment necessary for one of your machines, as well as extra 10G network cards.
